The proposed stops for the new overnight train. | Map by Fondation Trains de nuit |
Tomorrow, American + Canadian officials will meet in Quebec to discuss a new train route from Boston to Montreal. This meeting is just pulling out of the station towards a larger conversation about connecting these cities, so here is what we know: 🚂 The ride will take 14 hours one way and cost $212. 🚂 The sleeper car capacity is about 120 passengers + 70 seats available in coach.
🚂 This new overnight train will have several stops in the US, including Island Pond, VT; Berlin and Gorham, NH + Portland and Old Orchard Beach, ME.
This would be a two step project that will begin connecting Montreal to Sherbrooke and later complete the tracks into Boston.
Just how popular would this train be? A survey completed in 2017 estimated that there would be ~2,000 riders daily between Montreal and Sherbrooke and ~1,000 riders from Sherbrooke and Boston. So, Boston — are you ready to hop a train to Montreal?

Editor's pick: Living in South Carolina in the past, I was always keeping my eyes open for Bill Murray. The actor was known to crash weddings or pop in at random places around the state. So naturally I was super excited to see that he was spotted in Massachusetts over the weekend.
The "Groundhog Day" and "Ghostbusters" actor stopped for a few selfies with fans at Turks Seafood in Mattapoisett and spent some time with the wait staff. Check out the photos from his pit stop.
