J.P. Licks was founded in 1981 in Jamaica Plain and has grown to 17 stores in the Greater Boston area. Check out the special flavor for the Immersive King Tut experience — a version of "Golden Milk" ice cream, which is a sweet combo of turmeric + coriander spices. FoMu, multiple locations
This non-dairy ice cream shop offers plant-based ice cream at four locations across Boston. Get to know the owner + try one of the seasonal flavors like the blueberry shortbread or strawberry rhubarb pie.
Tipping Cow, 415 Medford St., Somerville + 525 Western Ave., Brighton
This locally owned shop has been serving up nut-free scoops since 2013. The peanut, tree nut, and sesame-free ice cream doesn’t limit the flavor combinations, which include Oreo mint, earl grey and lemon + fig with goat cheese. |

Scoop N' Scootery, 75 Linden St., Allston + 360 Washington St., Brighton
This late night ice cream shop is known for its sundaes and scoops ice cream until 2 a.m. at the Brighton location. The Garland is a sundae option with S’mores ice cream topped with marshmallow fluff, frosted rice crispy treats, doughy sugar cookie bites, fudge, graham crackers, and whipped cream. Yum. The Ice Creamsmith, 2295 Dorchester Ave. This family-owned shop has been making homemade ice cream in Dorchester since 1976. The small batch shop is scooping blueberry, birthday cake + coconut pineapple specialty flavors this month. Honeycomb Creamery, 1702 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge

21%. That’s the approximate percentage of Massachusetts that was classified in a "severe drought" as of last week. This is the first time the Bay State has reached this designation in two years. The 17th annual What the Fluff? Festival will return to Somerville on Sat., Sept. 17 from 3-7 p.m. The one-day foodie fest celebrates Massachusetts’ favorite sweet spread — marshmallow fluff.
