Face it, there is no shortage of amazing outdoor art installations to explore around Boston. Here’s another to add to the growing list.
Yesterday, the outdoor sculpture exhibition “Of Many Minds” by artist Michael Alfano officially opened at the Charlestown Navy Yard. Michael Alfano is known for creating figurative + surreal sculptures that convey philosophical ideas and abstract concepts. Each of the sculptures at the Harborwalk incorporates a human element, with most featuring a face.

What to see?
There are 20 sculptures to find along the Boston Harborwalk, beginning just outside of the USS Constitution Museum and ending around Mayor Menino Park at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
The sculptures range in size and material, from the bronze Questioning Mind (No. 4) to the stainless steel, powder-coated Blue Dancer (No. 20).
Liquid Sunshine (No. 2) is hard to miss with the yellow face. City Editor Jess’ favorite was the interactive Turning Heads (No. 3), which has moving pieces to make a face.
Pro tip: take a closer look for a quote included on every sculpture to further the conversation.
The free, public art exhibit will be on display through Dec. 18, 2023. Learn more about each of the sculptures here and plan your waterfront adventure with this helpful map.
